FAQs – Self-Worth Counselling

Taking the first step toward counselling can feel daunting, and it’s normal to have questions.
Here are answers to some of the most common questions I receive. If you don’t see your question here, you’re welcome to get in touch directly.

  1. What happens in the first session?
The first session is an opportunity to get to know each other and explore what has brought you to counselling. There is no pressure to share more than you feel comfortable with. Together, we’ll discuss your goals and how therapy might support you.

  2. How many sessions will I need?
Every person’s journey is unique. Some clients benefit from a few short sessions, while others find longer-term support more helpful. We’ll work together to create a plan that suits your needs.

  3. How long does each session last?
Each session lasts 50 minutes, giving you enough time to explore your thoughts and feelings without feeling rushed.

  4. Is counselling confidential?
Yes. Everything discussed in sessions is strictly confidential, except in rare circumstances where there is a risk of serious harm to yourself or others. Confidentiality will be explained in more detail at your first session.

  5. Do I need a referral?
No referral is required. You can contact me directly to book your first session.

  6. Can I do counselling online?
Yes. I offer face-to-face, online, and telephone sessions to suit your needs and comfort level.

  7. What if I need to cancel or reschedule a session?
Cancellations or changes should be made with at least 24 hours’ notice. This allows the slot to be offered to another client.

  8. What should I do if I’m in a crisis?
If you are in immediate danger or need urgent support, please contact your GP, NHS 111, emergency services, or the Samaritans on 0330 094 5717
